Nevertheless… You Have Left Your First Love!
Revelation 2:4 "Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love."
Meditation.
If someone comes to you and tells all the good things he has seen in you and the marvelous things you have done; but when he is concluding his talk, he uses the word, “Nevertheless…” I am sure your breath will go up and you will want to hear what he will say next. The verse for our meditation this morning is from Jesus Christ. He commended the good things He saw i n the Church of Ephesus, V2-3:
“I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars; and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary.” Waooo, what a great testimony of this church. If Jesus were to evaluate your faith, your walk, and your work in His vineyard today, what will He say about you? Will He say that you are Faithful? Hardworking? Committed? Or will He say something else? After commending the good things He saw in the church of Ephesus, Jesus had something against them. He used the word, “nevertheless”.

“Nevertheless… you have left your first love.” That means, the fervor you had for God is no longer there. The passion that you had for God has gone down. What has happened? Though you are present physically, spiritually you are absent. You just do things by formality. Your faithfulness in church service is not by passion, but by tradition and routine. Will this description apply to you and me today?
Yet, Jesus told them in verse 5: “Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.” Praise the Lord!
Beloved, let’s go back to our first love.
