How To Pray Effectively With The Mind

Introduction

14: For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays but my mind (understanding) is unfruitful. 15: What am I to do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray with my mind also; I will sing with my spirit, but I will sing with my mind also. 1st Corinthians 14:13

Prayer , is an act of communication with your Father, the LORD GOD. It is a too and fro process; where which you say something and you expect an answer in return. In other words, it is a one on one meeting with God. And if you must always get results after such prayers, you actually need to know how to go about it the right way.

In today’s study, we are going to talk about praying with your mind; which is simply praying with your understanding. That is, you are conscious and accountable of every words you use in this prayer. And to get the right results simply involves praying the right way, using the right words and most importantly, knowing exactly what you are praying about.

So, in other to achieve great results in this prayer, you should be able to:
17: and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God
Ephesians 6:17

When praying with your understanding, learn to use scriptures. Use scriptures that are related to the issue you are face with. The scripture records that the WORD of God is the sword of the Spirit (Holy Spirit), and if you must get victory after your prayers, then you need to give Him his Sword, his WORD.

The more you quote scriptures in prayer, the more swords you give to the Spirit and the more victories you shall get. 4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise!

Psalms 100:4
18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

1st Thessalonians 5:18
Always give thanks to God no matter the situation you are going through. At least give him thanks for everything that had been going right before now and also for the testimony he has prepared ahead for you.

Giving thanks to God, is indirectly asking for multiplication. Jesus gave thanks, and taking seven loaves of bread and few fishes, He fed four thousand men besides women and children and even had left overs (Math 15:35-37).
This exactly is what happens when you give thanks to God in prayers. He multiplies his deeds in your life.
As you give thanks to God Almighty, He will multiply your victory. He will do more and more. For He, the Lord will say:

18 Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of the old.
19 Behold, I am doing a new thing; …
(Isaiah 43:18-19)

20 that they may see and know, may consider and understand together, that
the hand of the LORD has done this, the Holy One of Israel has created it.
(Isaiah 41:20)

4-Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!
Isaiah 10:4

One of the ways the Lord God recognizes his children is the manner with which they come to his presence; they come with thanks giving, praises and worship. For He is aware of the fact that, his steadfast love and grace has been shown to everyone but those from whom he expects most to rejoice of his deeds are those who can recognize and acknowledge them, that is His children.

The scripture records in Acts 16:24-26, that when Paul and Silas were in prison, when they began praying and singing hymns to the Lord, the foundations of the prison were shaken and all the doors of every prisoner got opened.

In other words, when you praise God, the foundations of every issue in your life are shaken. You and everyone else in a similar situation like you are liberated irrespective of their participation or not. God will consider your praise and show mercy and favor to all, so you all may come together and praise him.

28 Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken,
and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, 29
for our God is a consuming fire.
Hebrews 12:28-29

Worship is simply the acknowledgement of God for whom He is through your words and actions based on the understanding that, He is: Omniscient ( He is all knowing), Omnipresent (He is everywhere) and Omnipotent (He is all powerful) in nature.
When you worship God during your prayer moments, He will
surely:

*Speak to you or your situation
*While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said…
(Acts 13:2)
As you put your issues aside for a moment when praying and begin to worship Him, you will surely come out with testimonies, for he will manifest himself greatly in that your situation.

30-And I sought for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the breach before me for the land, but I found none.
Ezekiel 22:30

A Christian that intercedes for others is one demonstrating the true nature of Christ Jesus. For God is searching for men that can stand that gap as our Lord Jesus does for us in God’s side (Romans 8:34 and Hebrews 7:25).

So, as a Christian, it shouldn’t be always you. You ought to intercede for others in prayers. Pray fervently for others; and when you do this, your own worries will as well be attaint to as was the case of Job when he prayed for his friends;

10-Then, after Job had prayed for his friends, the LORD made him prosperous again and gave him twice as much as he had before.
Job 42:10

Make out time when praying to present the issues of your love ones, enemies and even those you do not know, and God will bless you more and more.
