The Power and Benefits of Waiting on the Lord
By Eric Jinkwen
Isaiah 40:31 NKJV
“But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.”
We live in the world at a time when speed is an advantage. The faster or the quicker is the better. People want the fastest computer, fastest telephone, fastest car, the fastest way to grow, the fastest way to cook, the fastest way to have this or that. Have you noticed that when you are downloading something today and it delays just a little bit, you get impatient and worried? Yes! It happens to me too. I don’t want to wait one more minute. But can you remember that just about 15 years ago, when you went to the cyber coffee, just to access your email address took you about 5 minutes? Now, 30 seconds are too much delay.
Friends, this attitude of wanting things fast and faster has eroded many people’s ability to be patient and wait on God. It has affected our prayer life, our relationships, the way we run our business, and so on. We think that in everything, God should behave like the microwave, that when you put food in, tic tac, it should give it back to you already hot. Or He should behave like the computer or the phone that when you click on it, it responds immediately with an answer. Know this, there are matters in your life that will demand patience; exercising faith to wait on God. Hallelujah!
Friends, no matter how hurried you are, you will not want your baby to come out at 6 or 7 months. Such a baby is called premature. The normal time is 9 months. It is a law.
Isaiah in our passage raised a powerful benefit of waiting on the Lord; putting our faith in Him until we have the breakthrough or open door.
benefits of waiting on the Lord
- Your strength will be renewed
- They shall mount up with wings like eagles
- They shall run and not be weary
- They shall walk and not faint.
Are you expecting something from God? As you pray, wait. When you don’t see God working around you, He is working in you to perfect you. James wrote to the Christians and said, we should remain joyful in trials because
“…the testing of your faith produces patience. [4] But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.”
James 1:3-4.
In your waiting time, God is perfecting you, making you better for the answer and the testimony. Gloryyyyyy!
