Can Anyone Heal From Depression?
Gaining Freedom from Depression
Hello Everyone!
In this series, we are going to have a deeper look into the topic depression. Permit me introduce myself and tell you my story.
Introduction
I suffered from depression for about 35 years, slogging through it without the benefit of drugs or psychotherapy. Eight years before that time ended, I became a Christian. I grew up in a family which my dad would have considered Christian, but we rarely attended church. I suffered bullying at school which my teacher not only tolerated, she also participated in it to a degree. I was seven years old then.
Addiction became a way of life in my late teens and depression had either started already or was not far down the road. About a year before healing from depression came to me as I worked steps toward freedom from addiction, I had been going through a rough time and made plans for suicide. Within a week, God prompted me to pray for the spirit of suicide to leave me. I obeyed and had peace as a result. A year later my depression was healed.

That is the short version of my experience. My memoir The Branch and the Vine: How God Gave Me Freedom from Depression tells a story with a wider picture and more detail. This series of articles explains in summary the contents of that book. The list of causes I discuss here may not be comprehensive. Addressing all the causes of depression that apply to your life should lead to healing.
