Ephesians 3:17-19: "…that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge…"
The difference between an adult and a child is not just age and the physical body, but the degree of knowledge and maturity that he or she displays. Apostle Paul had a strong desire to see Christians grow in their knowledge of God and become mature saints in Christ. It is very amazing that his prayers for the saints were not at all focused on earthly things such as houses, marriage and finances. Paul knew that if Christians understood the realities of their covenant relationship with God and His attributes, the rest would follow. Paul rather prayed for illumination and transformation to take place within the believers.
Beloved, God is more interested in transforming you from the inside our than in changing situations around you. Being filled with the fullness of God required the comprehension of the four dimensions of God’s love:
1) The breadth of God’s love. It refers to the width or coverage of God’s love. John 3:16 reveals that God so loved the world. You are part of the world, God loves you. God’s love is not discriminatory, yours should not be.
2) The length of God’s love. It refers to the extent of God’s love. It is based on this that Jesus told us to forgive our others seven times seventy times, when they come to us in confession. That is an everlasting love.
3) The depth of God’s love. It refers to the intensity of God’s love. John 3:16 uses the advert “so” to show the intensity. “For God so loved the world…” Ephesians 2:4-5 reveals that God is so rich in mercy because of the intense love which He bestowed on us. Hallelujah! Our love should be intense.
4) The height of God’s love. It is about the loftiness of the God’s love character; it goes beyond human weakness. Do you know that God chose us not because we were good or we because had anything to give Him, but simply because of He loves us and has everything to give us? Beyond all errors and failures, His love is manifested in our lives. Our mistakes and failures can never put us beyond, or under or further from His love. There is no sin He cannot forgive and no situation he cannot fix. Why don’t you give a chance to forgive others, to bear, to endure and to reconcile just as God did and He is still doing for you?
Prayer: Father, I receive from you the grace and wisdom to love as you loved, forgave me and redeemed me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
