When the King decides to show you His Kindness
2 Samuel 9:1
”And David said, is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”
From the story, Jonathan and David were covenant friends. They had a covenant of faithfulness and kindness with each other. By that covenant, David had a debt toward Jonathan. Jonathan was no more, but the covenant was still speaking. Covenants are very powerful.
Even at a time when no one could imagine that David will remember the covenant, David had no rest. The covenant was speaking. So, for Jonathan’s sake, David decides to show his kindness. When the king decides to show you kindness, you can rest assured that your life will change for good. David knew what it means to obtain kindness from God. He was brought from the forest following sheep to the Palace leading God’s people. See what David did for Jonathan’s sake, in showing his kindness.
(1) The king enquired about Jonathan’s family. Jonathan had a lame son called Mephibosheth.
(2) The king sent for him and brought him into his own house.
(3) The king gave him a place of honour at his table.
(4) The king gave him food everyday at the King’s table.
(5) The King gave him lands and territory for himself. In 2 Samuel 9:7, “So David said to him, ‘Do not fear, for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father’s sake, and will restore to you all the land of Saul your grandfather; and you shall eat bread at my table continually.'”
(6) The King gave him servants at his service (15 sons and 20 servants of Ziba)
God is still in the business of showing people His kindness. And when God wants to show you His kindness, he does it bigger than David did.
He gives you a new name and puts a new song in your mouth. Mephibosheth was in an unknown locality called Lodebar. The king sent for him to show him kindness. And by decrees of the King, Mephibosheth’s story changed in one day. He became the King’s friend, eating at his table, living in the Palace and having lands and servants, all in one day.
I see God by the covenant of his kindness toward men in Christ Jesus, bringing to someone the wages of 10 years of labour. I see God releasing upon someone a promotion that is worth 15 years of normal labour. You may think you are forgotten. Oh, wait until the kindness of God through Jesus Christ shows fought in your live. You will be located, brought out and honoured. Let me end with these verses Psalms 113:7-8 “He raises the poor out of the dust, and lifts the needy out of the ash heap; that He may seat him with princes—With the princes of His people.”
Prayer: Father, let your kindness manifest towards me in this season. I am tired of being in Lodebar. Bring me out in Jesus name.
