Dangers of Dishonoring Your Parents

There is a serious problem with damning consequences in our society today, which is the rising height of dishonor to parents by some children. Some children in today’s world are ungrateful, critical, and disrespectful towards their parents, and children from Christian homes are not exempted. They magnify their parents faults and minimize their sacrifices and love, and still expect grace and care from them.
At whatever stage of life you are, you are still a child to your parents, but some adolescent and adult no longer see it this way, and so frequently disregard their parents.

God does not excuse disrespect to parents for any reason because that’s disobedience to His commands and promises, rather He has set laws in motion to punish such disobedience. ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’
Matthew 15:4 The command to honor your parents isn’t based on either they are good or bad, but on their age and the parental office they occupy over your life. God obviously considers respect for the elderly important.

You owe them honor, not necessarily because they’ve earned it, but because it’s a command. So, even if your parents made mistakes, maltreated you at some point in your life, didn’t give you all the care and provisions you needed, or are unbelievers, it’s very dangerous to dishonor them as you stand the risk of missing God’s blessings. The best is to pray for and show them love. Relate with them in wisdom in areas of misunderstanding and conflicts.
