What does it mean to know God
By Eric Jinkwen ; –
Isaiah 1:3
"The ox knows its owner And the donkey its master’s crib; But Israel does not know Me, My people do not consider.”
Yesterday, we were making the difference between knowing about God and knowing God. We can see it clearly from the verse above. It came a time in Israel when God said, “Israel does not know Me, My people do not consider.”
Do you think Israel did not know anything about God?
No! The Temple was still in place and some religious activities were still going on in Israel, but these people’s hearts have departed from God. The fear of God had departed from them and they did not consider the ways of God anymore. Listen to how God puts it, “But The ox knows its owner and the donkey its master’s crib; But Israel does not know Me, My people do not consider.”
These animals are used to show how rebellious Israel had become. Even the ox or the donkey can recognize and submit to their masters, but these people were no more acquainted with the ways of God.
What does it mean to know God?
1) To know God means to know and reverence His name, Exodus 3:13-15.
2) To know God means to know His attributes and personality, Exodus 34. This goes further to affect your life and influence your activities.
3) To know God means to His will and His Word. God and His Word are one, John 1:1. You can’t say you know God when you do not submit to His will.
4) To know God means to know his purpose and His agenda and adjusting your life to pursuing it.
5) To know God means to know and submit to Jesus Christ, John 14:6.
Jesus is the greatest revelation of God to mankind. Jesus is the image of the invisible God
(Colossians 1:15a). He who knows Christ, knows God and has eternal life.

Hebrews 1 says, “God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son… who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person.” Following Christ is following God.
Believing in Christ is believing in God. You are on the right track if you are following Christ. May God show himself in your life and bless you.
Prayer: Father, thank you for sending your Son on earth so that through Him we might know you. As I connect with Jesus Christ everyday, grant me to know you more and more in Jesus name, amen!
