Why You Need the Holy Spirit
First and foremost, I will like you to know that the Holy Spirit is a PERSON; that is, He has all the characteristics of a person and more to that, He is God himself.
As a person, I mean to say He has:
1) AN INTELLECT
The Bible says that the Holy Spirit has the intellectual capacity to think:
“But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.” 1 Corinthians 2:10

2)EMOTIONS
The Holy Spirit not only thinks like a person. He has feelings like a person. He can give and receive love.
“Now I beg you, brethren, through the Lord Jesus Christ, and through the love of the Spirit, that you strive together with me in your prayers to God for me.” ROMAN 15:30
More to that, the Holy Spirit can be grieved. That is, He can be saddened by a particular deed, behavior or situation.
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
Ephesians 4:30
3)He Has a WILL
The Holy Spirit also has a will to choose:
“But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.”
1 Corinthians 12:11
These attributes are consistent with personhood. Therefore, we see that the characteristics ascribed to the Holy Spirit -thought, feelings, choice – are attributes of a person.
4)HE IS GOD HIMSELF
The final reason that we conclude that the Holy Spirit is a person is that He is addressed as God. He is a member of the Godhead which consists of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Jesus said:
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit.” Mathew 28:19
The Father and Son are personal beings and the Holy Spirit is treated in the same manner and assumed to be a person. Getting back to business, I will quickly share with you reasons why we need the Holy Spirit by elaborating His various personalities in us:
HE IS YOUR LIFE PURPOSED BEING
“And when they came together, he gave them this order: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift I told you about, the gift my Father promised. John baptized with water but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” Acts 1:4-5
Jesus Christ instructed his disciples to wait until the Holy Spirit comes. The question here can be: Couldn’t they go ahead and preach without the Holy Spirit? Why wait when they had been with Jesus and heard all His teachings?
The answer is. YES!
They could teach, but their teachings could not have made great impacts. They would have been repeating empty words with lack of revelation and power. They had been with Jesus throughout His ministry, but Jesus Christ was the only one carrying the ‘Ministering Spirit’. Who could make him teach; and his words were filled with glory and power such that multitudes could come together to listen to His teachings. He, Jesus worked in communion with the Holy Spirit.
He did the talking while the Holy Spirit gave the revelatory words, in glory and power. Jesus Christ, as a gospel minister, could not achieve any of
this without the ‘Ministering Spirit’. With His own efforts, He would have had fewer impacts as well as fewer people would have listened talk less of believing. In other words, his ministry would not have been successful without the Holy Spirit.
So, knowing all these, Jesus who had called his disciples to be ministers of the gospel knew they could not have been able to do any good thing that could glorify the Father without this Ministering Spirit. As in John 1:34, he said:
“The one whom God sent speaks God’s words, because God gives Him the fullness of His Spirit” and in John 14:26, he says:
“The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and make you remember all that I have told you.”
And after the Holy Spirit had come upon them as promised by Jesus (in Acts 2:40-41),the Bible records that Peter then preached to the people and on that same day, three thousand souls were added to the church . Glory be to God.
Relating This To Us You should know that, not everyone is called to be a Minister of God (I.e. an Apostle, Prophet, Pastor, Evangelist, Teacher, and Psalmist etc.) but everyone is called to preach the gospel as a believer in your various domain of service. Some have been called to serve as: Doctors, Business men and women, Teachers, Drivers, Carpenters, President etc.
All you need to do is make sure God’s will is been done through you as he intended; and this can only be possible if you are led by His Spirit just as He, Jesus was.
All the above is just to let you know that your life purpose, written by God, can only be accomplish with the help of God’s Spirit, the Holy Spirit as was the case of:
*Jesus Christ with the ‘Ministering Spirit’ which led him to do the greatest task ever in ministry in only three years; with great miracles.
*King David, with the ‘Spirit of Leadership’ which led him to do lead God’s people as a king. (Book of 1 and 2 Samuel, Kings 1)
*Great Bezalel, the son of Uri with the ‘Spirit of God for Artistic Craft’ was given understanding, skill, and ability for every kind of artistic work. Exodus 31:1-6
*Great Queen Esther, the ‘Spirit of Intercession’ by whom she stood for the Jews in her time and defeated their enemies. Esther 2
*The Twelve Apostles had the ‘Spirit of Ministry’. They were provided with the necessary gift from the Holy Spirit which led to a great success in their ministries as God had called them.
Likewise, the Holy Spirit is the only Spirit that can help bring to accomplishment God’s will in your life. He knows what you are called to do and how you are required to do it; give Him the chance to lead and work in and through you the purpose of God for your life.
The Holy Spirit knows what you are called to do, when you are called to do it and how you are called to do it. Let Him take the lead in your life, let Him work through you. He is right there with you right now, just speak to Him. Pour out your heart to Him and give him the way into your heart by receiving him; and your life will never be the same.
