Run the Race While Looking Ahead

Abundant Life Devotional
By Eric Jinkwen

RUN THE RACE WHILE LOOKING AHEARD.

Philippians 3:13
“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead.”

Your future is ahead of you and not behind you. Your best days are ahead and not behind. Have you ever asked yourself why God created man with two eyes, but decided to put all the two eyes in front? Why did He not put one in front and one behind since it is necessary to also know what is happening behind. Why did he not put all the two eyes by the sides?

God put all our two eyes in front because he wants us to focus in front and not behind nor by the side. You move in front. No body can run well or advance well if he keeps his eyes looking behind. Many people stumble in the race of life because they to much keep their eyes behind in their past.

Two things can happen when you too much look behind:

(1) You either become lazy thinking that you have done enough already, Or

(2) You become discouraged because of many failures and mistakes you have done.

Beloved, keep your eyes in front as you run in the race. You may have failed or committed many mistakes in the past, that was yesterday. Don’t bring them into today. Learn the lessons from yesterday and move on. There is still much you can do today and tomorrow to fulfill your destiny.

Today and tomorrow are full of opportunities. Paul began by saying, “Not that I have already obtained all this, or I have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me… I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus” (V12, 14). The prize is ahead and not behind.

The projects the opportunities, the good relationships, the new doors and new experiences are ahead of you. Ahead is still full of possibilities. It is not all gone. Believe it, hope it and keep pressing ahead!

Prayer: Father, help me to learn from my failures and my mistakes of yesterday so that I can run well today, looking with confidence ahead.
Thank you Lord, Amen!
