The Benefits of Knowing and Serving God

By Eric Jinkwen

Hosea 6:3 NLT
“Oh, that we might know the Lord! Let us press on to know him. He will respond to us as surely as the arrival of dawn or the coming of rains in early spring.”

In the book of Hosea, God is calling His people to return to Him and seek to know Him. In fact, this is one of the great themes of the Bible—returning to God and seeking to know Him. Why should we pursue the knowledge of God?

The knowledge of God here should be understood as revelation or intimate knowledge. It is not just casual or abstract awareness but experiential knowledge—a knowledge that guarantees mastery.

1. The Knowledge of God is the Catalyst for True Restoration and Revival

Hosea 6:1-2 says:
“Come, and let us return to the Lord; For He has torn, but He will heal us; He has stricken, but He will bind us up. [2] After two days He will revive us; On the third day He will raise us up, That we may live in His sight.”

Knowing God brings healing and restoration of our souls. Are you depressed, discouraged, or worried? Turn to God, and He will heal you. A true revival is catalyzed and sustained through the knowledge of God.

2. The Knowledge of God Produces Eternal Life

John 17:3 reveals that eternal life is:
“that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”

3. Our Fruitfulness in This World is Proportionate to Our Growth in the Knowledge of God

Paul wrote to the Colossians:
“that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God” (Colossians 1:10).

4. The Knowledge of God Makes Us Partakers of His Divine Nature and Produces All Good Things

This is emphasized in 2 Peter 1:2-4. We partake of God’s divine nature through our knowledge of Him.

5. The Knowledge of God is the Power Behind a Life of Exploits

It is often said that knowledge is power. But the knowledge of God is power for exploits (Daniel 11:32b). Ignorance of God and His principles explains every failure and stagnation in the Christian life. Hosea 4:6 says, “My people are destroyed because they don’t know me.”

The true knowledge of God liberates the soul. People pursue many things except the knowledge of God. But seeking first the kingdom and the righteousness of God guarantees that we will have all the things necessary to fulfill God’s purposes in our lives.

Friends, you do not lose when you turn your life to God and follow His word. Instead, you win. You win in every way. There is nothing we can take out of this world except to secure our life in God through Jesus Christ.
