The Mercy of God
Abundant Life Devotional

Genesis 4:15; “And the LORD said to him, “Therefore, whoever kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.” And the LORD set a mark on Cain, lest anyone finding him should kill him.”
Cain had just killed his only brother. You can imagine the pains his parents will feel when they would learn of this crime. God earlier warn Cain, Genesis 4:6-7 “So the LORD said to Cain, ‘Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.'”
Even with all these warnings, Cain still went ahead to murder his brother. To make things worst, when God asked him about his action, his answer was not the best neither. “Then the LORD said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?” He said, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” (Genesis 4:9)
Can you imagine that kind of answer to God? Cain answered so rudely to God after he has committed the first murder in the history of mankind.
If you were God, what will you have done to Cain? Kill Cain as well, right? Praise and worship God because He is not a man like us. He is not reactional like us. The Mercy of God, slow to anger and quick to forgive.
It is true that there was a curse on Cain for his wicked action, but instead of killing him at once for the crime he committed, God even when further to put a mark of protection on Cain after he expressed his fear and complain to God. Think a little about Adam and Eve losing two children the same day. God did not allow it to happen.

I want you this morning to see how merciful this God is. God is not after the destruction of men he created in His imagine. No! He does not take pleasure in the killing of sinners. Rather, because of His great mercy, He gives an opportunity to every one to repent and be saved.
God is not against you. What ever trouble you face, don’t blame God for any unfortunate situation in your live. Wickedness is not of God.
Yes, God can be angry for your past sins and evils, but His anger last just for a moment. See how David described God in Psalms 30:5 “For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.”
Your joy is coming this morning. Your restoration is coming before this month is over. Your lifting will come shortly. God has not abandoned you.
He said in Isaiah 54:7-8; “For a mere moment I have forsaken you, But with great mercies I will gather you. With a little wrath I hid My face from you for a moment; But with everlasting kindness I will have mercy on you,” Says the LORD, your Redeemer.” Hallelujah!
